Mrs. Maria Dowden
Welcome to Mrs. Dowden’s Kindergarten class! During this exciting year of incredible growth and exploration, the Kinders learn to follow God in all that they think, say, and do! Our classroom setting focuses on developmentally appropriate learning activities and hands on classroom centers with manipulatives, experiments, and creative activities to help each child explore Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Each week we focus on a Sound of the Week in our phonics-based program as we strengthen our pre-reading skills.
Our Kinders enjoy their weekly special classes in Music, Computers, Library, and Physical Education. We celebrate each child’s uniqueness through our Star of the Week activities, which include taking home our class pal, Kinder Bear and his special journal. We love getting together with our Sixth Grade Prayer Partners for weekly Mass and enjoy the Fifth Graders who visit us each day at recess to read to us.
The Kinders enjoy their Halloween Costume Parade, the Valentine’s Day Post Office that benefits the National Children’s Medical Center, and other special events such as our Winter Picnic, the Bear and Bunny Bash, and our Butterfly Garden. Our Kinders are always busy learning and exploring God’s beautiful world!
