Hello Parents!

My name is Katie Van Lieshout and I am very eager to teach First Grade again this year. I was in first grade myself when I first decided I wanted to become a teacher. I have always had a deep passion and love for learning and my goal this year is to be able to create that interest in each one of my students.

I grew up in a small town near Rochester, New York. Getting a good Catholic education was important to me, so I majored in Early Childhood Education at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. I also have plans to get my Masters Degree in Special Education. I chose to teach at Queen of Apostles School because of their dedication to the Catholic faith and their obvious commitment to the students and families they serve.

We learn so much in First grade! We will focus on using phonemic awareness to build fluency in both reading and writing. The students will also work on a strong foundation of basic math skills upon which to build in future years. They will develop a love for the Catholic faith and a basic understanding of what it means to live out that faith in our daily lives. We also will learn about many fundamental topics in both Science and Social Studies.

I am excited to get to know every one of your children for the person that he or she is. They will grow so much this year and I am so honored to be a part of their educational journey. I’m looking forward to a great school year!

May the joy of Christ fill your heart,

Katie Van Lieshout
