¡Aprender Español es divertido!
Your brain is always ready to learn another language, no matter what age you might be.
¡Tú también puedes!
This will be my fourth year teaching at Queen of Apostles. There are many reasons why I enjoy working at the school and have stayed with QofA for so many years. The main reason is that I truly enjoy watching our students grow academically.
I am passionate about my native language, and for me it is a privilege to be able to share it with my students. My goal as an educator is to guide every child toward academic success and to help them acquire a second language that they can carry with them throughout their lives.
Kindergarten through 2nd grades will be provided an exposure to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world through stories, songs and direct instruction. They did a wonderful job last year!
3rd, 4th and 5th grades will use a text book that offers an introductory program making language acquisition a natural and personalized experience. It encourages students to use Spanish for communication and self-expression. Each lesson contains a short, entertaining narrative with new structural elements and vocabulary. Third, fourth and fifth graders worked hard last year.
The 6th grade this year has made great progress in their learning level, so I hope that our future results are going to be even more encouraging, reason why my classes will be conducted mainly in Spanish. Sixth graders will continue next chapters with the textbook and the Cuaderno de Ejercicios, which features additional writing practice and stimulating puzzles to supplement the textbook exercises.
The 7th grade has worked in the same manner – with great commitment and enthusiasm. My classes are conducted 80% in Spanish and the student response was as expected. They will finish the textbook started last year and will begin a new textbook with easy to manage sections and interactive quizzes to reinforce the lessons, and a resource workbook with plenty activities to emphasize each chapter. At the same time, an audio program completely integrated with the texts. In addition, the student has access to a wide range of online activities and resources (ClassZone.com).
8th graders are committed to learning the language and I’m sure that with hard work we will develop throughout the year our score in the World Language Test will be much higher. We will begin a new text book with easy to manage sections and interactive quizzes to reinforce the lessons, and a resource workbook with plenty of activities to emphasize each chapter. An audio program is also available, completely integrated with the texts. In addition, the student has access to a wide range of online activities and resources (ClassZone.com).
With regards to the World Language Test required for High School, from 17 eighth graders last year, 10 went to the advanced level, Spanish II. Thumbs up for them and for QofA!
