Head of Upper School, 8th Grade Homeroom, Middle School Religion, 8th Grade Social Studies

For all three grades, we will follow the diocesan curriculum guidelines which reflect the outline of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, according to the four pillars of presenting the faith. We will study the profession of faith (the Creed), which teaches us about God and what He did for us in salvation history.  We will learn about the celebration of the Christian Mystery (Liturgy and Sacraments), which brings us to a participation in the Divine life.  We will study Our Life in Christ (The Christian Moral Life and the Commandments) and focus on Christian Prayer (using the Bible and the Our Father as the model for prayer given to us by Jesus). Each grade will concentrate on different contents of the four pillars. The eighth grade class will also prepare for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The 8th grade class will explore the history of the United States, from the Reconstruction era to the present.  Students will use skills of historical and geographical analysis, identifying and interpreting primary and secondary source documents, making connections between the past and the present, sequencing events, evaluating and debating issues, and analyzing key documents, speeches, and maps.  They will learn fundamental concepts in civics, economics, and geography.
