St. Isidore Online Academy

Thank you to those who attended our June 1, 2021 St. Isidore Academy presentation; our one-room schoolhouse housed exclusively at Queen of Apostles Catholic School. We have attached the recorded event for your reference.

Saint Isidore of Seville began as a response to a call from teachers and families responding to the pandemic in our Diocese.  They were unable to return to a brick and mortar classroom but wanted to remain in a Catholic School.  This need along with an incredible amount of support from Bishop Burbidge and departments in the Chancery made Saint Isidore a reality.  Staffed with excellent teachers, and 150 + students, a school was born.  Unfortunately, the school’s viability came into question as enrollment numbers for 2021-2022 indicated a much smaller school.  It was clear that it would not continue to exist in its current form.  All was not lost, as its original purpose to serve students and teachers remains.

It is with great excitement that virtual learning will continue in the Diocese of Arlington! We love this school and have been exploring a variety of options for families that prefer a virtual learning environment. Starting July 1, 2021 I will have the honor of serving as the principal of Queen of Apostles Catholic School, which will host the St. Isidore Academy, a concurrent virtual learning environment.

Saint Isidore will continue to serve families seeking a virtual option; however, it will become an integral component of the Project Based Learning (PBL) approach that will be implemented at Queen of Apostles School this fall.  This model offers students in both environments, virtual and in-person, differentiated instruction strategies aimed at increasing student success.  Project Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy that allows for subject integration to solve real world problems.  Because it is student-centered, research shows that students retain more because they select the projects.  It is my belief that PBL will make for an innovative educational experience for students.  We will be offering a concurrent virtual learning model as part of Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Alexandria, VA.

Any current St. Isidore student’s tuition will be grandfathered into the new virtual Catholic school at their current tuition rate.

This agreement was just finalized and there are still many more details to follow, I ask for your patience as they come to light, but I wanted to let you all be the first to know that Saint Isidore will continue for the 2021-2022 academic year as an option through Queen of Apostles.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Alex Diaz
