Inclement Weather & School Closing

Diocesan schools (K-8) are in session for 180 days. Each school adds at least three extra days to the school calendar each year to accommodate days off due to inclement weather or other non-weather related emergencies. In the event these inclement weather/emergency days are not used, schools may dismiss for summer after completing the required 180 school days. If, however, during the course of the year, the school uses more than three inclement weather/emergency days, it is not necessary for the school to extend its school year beyond the 183 budgeted days, provided the school has surpassed 1038 hours of instructional time.

Following Diocesan policy, when a Diocesan school is closed for the day due to inclement weather, public health safety concerns, etc., the following will apply:

a. All school-related extracurricular activities, interscholastic contests, team practices and field trips will be cancelled.

b. Extended day care programs will be closed all day.

Queen of Apostles Catholic School follows Fairfax County schools for weather related openings or closings. Please check your local news station or the FCPS website for closings, delayed openings, or early dismissals. Announcements will be made via SchoolMessenger, social media, and the website.
